Dear Mr. Davis:

On March 12, 2007 Center Bancorp Inc. issued a Form 8-K announcing that “it will reduce its overall staffing level by about 10% through attrition, layoffs and voluntary resignations and anticipates taking a one-time, pre-tax charge of approximately $140,000 in the first quarter of 2007 related to termination of benefits.”

Unfortunately, there is no disclosure as to whether senior management, including you, are - or will be - reducing their salaries to share in the pain since the overstaffing occurred on your watch. If disclosure is not made immediately about salary reductions for the senior management team, I will assume none has been, or will be, instituted.

Your prompt response is requested.

Very truly yours,

                              /s/ Lawrence B. Seidman
